The Chair, Department of Cardiothoracic Surgery at Mayo Clinic Florida is a senior leadership role within one of the nation’s most respected academic medical institutions. Reporting to the CEO of Mayo Clinic Florida and working closely with site and enterprise leaders, the Chair will provide strategic and operational leadership for a nationally recognized department.
Responsibilities
Advancing clinical excellence and growth, including outcomes, access, quality, and patient experience
Leading and supporting a high-performing faculty, with a strong emphasis on recruitment, retention, mentorship, and faculty development
Driving innovation across clinical practice, education, and research, including collaboration with cardiovascular medicine, transplant, critical care, anesthesiology, and related specialties
Supporting and expanding academic and scholarly productivity, including clinical trials, outcomes research, and educational initiatives
Ensuring responsible financial stewardship, resource alignment, and operational effectiveness
Serving as a key institutional leader within Mayo Clinic Florida and across the Mayo Clinic enterprise
About Mayo Clinic Florida
Mayo Clinic is significantly expanding its presence in Jacksonville, Florida, acquiring over 200 acres to enhance its existing facilities. This substantial investment will create cutting-edge spaces designed to seamlessly integrate physical and digital resources, ultimately improving patient care.
Qualifications
- M.D. or equivalent degree
- Board certification in Thoracic and Cardiac Surgery by the American Board of Thoracic Surgery, or equivalent
- Eligibility for full and unrestricted Florida medical licensure
- Academic rank of Associate Professor or higher; Professor preferred
- Demonstrated success in faculty leadership, program development, and strategic planning
- Evidence of ongoing academic and scholarly activity
- Strong commitment to team-based, multidisciplinary care and education
- Proven ability to mentor junior faculty and develop future leaders
- Excellent interpersonal, communication, and organizational leadership skills
