Our clients have raised over $17.8B, and we lead with our Core Values: Fresh Perspectives, Exponential Value, Empathy, and being a Trusted Partner. About the Role
We're looking for a CFO Advisory Consultant to serve as a long-term financial partner and advisor to clients operating under management services agreements (MSO) and affiliated professional corporations (PCs). As the de-facto senior finance team member, you'll own the numbers month over month, architect and manage systems, advise CEOs and physician leadership, and navigate the complexities of MSO/PC structures, including capital requirements, compliance, and unit economics.
Responsibilities
- Oversee monthly close, budgeting, and forecasting across the management company and affiliated PC(s).
- Maintain clean MSO/PC economics: intercompany billing, cost allocations, management fee settlements, and compliance guardrails.
- Advise CEOs and physician leadership on financial strategy, including capital planning, growth, and management fee execution.
- Own the finance section of Board meetings, including MSO/PC KPI dashboards and investor updates.
- Support fundraising and M&A by sizing rounds, modeling scenarios, and communicating with investors and acquirers.
- Maintain sharp fundamentals: revenue cycle, cash flow planning, vendor spend, controls, growth potential, and audit readiness.
- Identify opportunities to bring in Burkland's bookkeeping, tax, and HR services.
Requirements
- Direct MSO/PC experience, including management fee arrangements, intercompany settlements, and practice-level unit economics (top qualifier).
- Healthcare experience, particularly related to insurance reimbursements.
- History of managing and owning the numbers long-term, not just building fixed-fee FP&A models.
- Experience advising through growth events such as fundraising, M&A, and exits.
- Investment banking, venture capital, or corporate development background is a strong plus.
- 7–10 years in finance/operations, ideally in healthcare growth sectors (digital health, telehealth, behavioral health/therapy services).
- Excellent Excel/Sheets skills and familiarity with financial technology platforms (e.g., QBO, Carta, Rippling, Ramp, Rillet).
- Experience with AI tools and LLMs applied to financial analysis, processes, accounting, and reporting.
- MBA or CPA preferred but not required.
- Strategic judgment and exceptional soft skills.
Candidates based in Austin, Boston, New York, or Northern California are preferred but not required.
Benefits
- 100% remote, work-from-anywhere flexibility with a reliable internet connection.
- Flexible work schedule to promote work-life balance.
- Collaborative, communicative culture driven by Core Purpose and Values.
- Incentive structures for referrals and business expansions:
- New Business Bonus Program: Earn a bonus for introducing new clients, with no cap on referrals. If you personally handle the CFO work, earn a percentage of collections for the life of the client. If another team member handles it, earn 10% of collections on the client's first year of invoices.
- Cross-Sell Bonus Program: Earn a percentage of collections on the first year of invoices for new service lines identified and facilitated with existing clients.
- Head of Finance Economic Interest: Earn a percentage of Burkland's collections across a multi-service client's services (excluding Strategic Finance) when serving as substantive Head of Finance.
Pay
The target compensation range for this engagement is $71,000 - $340,000 (project/contract basis), depending on scope, experience, expertise, geographic market, and project duration. Compensation is structured as fees for services rendered under a consulting agreement.
