About the role

The Modeling Engineer position at Hertha Metals is crucial for developing multi-phase CFD models to support the company's groundbreaking ironmaking technology. This role requires a deep understanding of complex physical systems, validation of model accuracy, and integration of findings into future equipment designs.

Responsibilities

  • Develop and validate multi-phase CFD models for Hertha Metals' innovative ironmaking technology.
  • Collaborate with the research, engineering, and operations teams to gather input, establish boundary conditions, and validate model performance.
  • Work closely with the engineering and operations teams to ensure the models align with the company's goals and objectives.

Requirements

  • A bachelor’s degree in physics, mechanical engineering, chemistry, or materials science with 10+ years of relevant modeling experience.
  • A PhD is preferred, but not required.
  • Experience modeling complex fluid flows phenomena and interactions, including conservation of mass, momentum, and energy.
  • Experience modeling chemical process systems with two or more miscible liquid phases is a plus.
  • Experience modeling high-temperature systems is also a plus.
  • A deep understanding of different meshing strategies to optimize simulation accuracy and efficiency.
  • Proficiency in drawing, importing, and manipulating CAD models for CFD models.
  • Strong knowledge of partial differential equations solutions.
  • Proficiency with ANSYS Fluent.
  • Familiarity with scripting languages for data manipulation.
  • Ability to work independently and lead projects.
