About the role
This position involves the development, validation, and implementation of network configuration files (CFs) for transport, IP, and optical networks. The role requires close collaboration with design, implementation, and operations teams to ensure configurations are aligned with engineering standards, operational practices, and customer migration needs.
Responsibilities
- Develop, validate, and deliver configuration files (CFs) for transport and IP network elements supporting core and edge networks.
- Support network builds, migrations, and upgrades by preparing configuration data for routers, switches, DWDM systems, and related hardware.
- Collaborate closely with transport planners, design engineers, and implementation teams to ensure accurate configuration alignment.
- Review and interpret network design documents, provisioning data, and circuit layouts to produce executable configuration scripts.
- Ensure integrity, compliance, and thorough documentation of configuration changes across the network infrastructure.
- Assist in troubleshooting and post-activation validation during network cutovers or migration processes.
- Maintain version control, naming conventions, and configuration baselines adhering to engineering standards.
- Identify discrepancies, automation opportunities, and recurring design issues, escalating when necessary.
- Support configuration management policies using CFEngine in legacy and modern environments.
- Participate in continuous improvement initiatives to optimize network configuration processes.
Qualifications
- Hands-on experience with CFEngine, including managing policies in both CFEngine 2 and CFEngine 3 environments.
- 3–5+ years of experience in transport, IP, or optical network engineering.
- Proficiency working with Cisco, Juniper, or Ciena network devices and their configuration syntaxes.
- Strong understanding of Layer 1 through Layer 3 networking technologies.
- Experience generating and editing configuration templates and scripts.
- Ability to read and interpret network design documents, low-level diagrams, and logical connectivity plans.
- Attention to detail, disciplined documentation practices, and a focus on quality control.
- Excellent communication skills with the ability to work collaboratively within a large enterprise environment.
- Availability to work on-site as required for collaboration and network deployment activities.
- Must be legally authorized to work in the United States.
Pay
Publishing Pay Range: $60.00 – $65.00 USD Hourly
