Certified Welding Inspector
About the role
The Certified Welding Inspector (CWI) position at Intertek-PSI in Ripon, WI, is part of the Building and Construction division. This role involves ensuring compliance with safety and environmental guidelines, conducting tests and inspections on structural steel, and inspecting weldments and weld-related activities.
Responsibilities
- Ensure compliance with safety and environment guidelines, policies, and regulations
- Test and inspect structural steel during erection on general building and pipeline sites, as well as occasional plant inspections
- Inspect general construction and structural steel erection for buildings
- Inspect welding jobs for defects such as cracks, porosity, undercut etc.
- Record results of tests and welding inspections
- Able to issue and follow up on non-conformances until the close out
- Plan and conduct the analysis, inspection, test, and/or integration to assure the quality of assigned product or component
- Review all welded products or components and provide input to the decision of whether to accept or reject the product
- Document data obtained during all quality assurance activities, consistent with company policies and procedures
- Communicate significant issues or developments identified during quality assurance activities and provide recommended process improvements to management
- Inspect, test, or measure materials, products, installations, or work for conformance to specifications
- Measure dimensions of products to verify conformance to specifications, using measuring instruments such as rulers, calipers, gauges, or micrometers
- May also operate testing equipment and conduct testing, (example: Soil, concrete or other)
- Operate a calculator to calculate mathematical test results
- Must be aware of, and adhere to, safety practices and policies to ensure your own safety, as well as the safety of others who may be affected by your actions at work
Requirements
- High School Diploma or equivalent required
- Absolutely must have AWS Certified Welding Inspector (CWI) Certification with D1.1 experience
- Minimum of 4 years of relevant experience required
- Must have ability to read blueprints and understand, and interpret tolerances
- Must have computer skills: Microsoft Windows and Microsoft Office applications
- Must be able to receive, understand, and execute written and verbal directions
- Must be able to communicate and interact effectively in verbal & written communication
- Must be able to work well independently and with others
- Must be able to periodically work off shifts and overtime
- Must be able to test concrete and compaction
- Must have valid Driver’s License and reliable driving record (required)
Qualifications
- Technical Degree in Welding is preferred
- Construction materials testing experience is preferred
Skills
Knowledge of welding processes, test methods, discontinuities, materials, qualifications, and standards.
