Certified Volleyball Referee (Part-time)

About the role

Volo is seeking a League Host/Referee to oversee volleyball leagues, ensuring a safe, fun, social, and fair environment for all players. This role involves managing league operations, officiating games, and supporting fundraising and promotional activities to enhance the community experience.

Responsibilities

• Update league scores in our host app
• Encourage and maintain a quality experience throughout the league
• Be available at least 1 day per week from 5:30pm-10:30pm for at least eight weeks
• Handle other league-day preparations, such as court setup and supervision
• Use host app to check in players as needed
• Execute fundraising activities to support kids programs
• Promote events and upcoming leagues via social media and on-field selling, including helping distribute marketing materials
• Make players meet and feel welcome
• Ensure a safe, fun, social and fair environment for all players
• Understand and kindly and fairly enforce each sport's rules
• Communicate with the office regarding any equipment, rule issues, player issues, etc.
• Officiate Volleyball games by enforcing the Volo rules and regulations
• Make quick and accurate decisions regarding fouls, violations, and points
• Communicate effectively with players, hosts, and other officials
• Monitor game clock and manage timeouts and intervals
• Inspect and setup game equipment and facilities

Qualifications

• Must have strong knowledge of volleyball rules and gameplay, with prior playing experience required
• Ability to focus strong attention to detail
• Excellent oral communication skills to players, able to project voice across the court or field
• Works well in a team atmosphere
• Maintain control of the game to ensure player safety and fair competition
• Report any incidents or altercations to the appropriate authorities
• Participate in ongoing training and certification programs
• Ability to multi-task and make decisions under pressure
• Ability to lift and carry 50 pounds
• Possess a positive, solution-oriented mindset with the ability to communicate clearly
• Must be available to work evenings and/or weekends
• Proficient customer service skills
• High School Diploma / GED Equivalency
