Job Duties & Responsibilities

  • Performs patient care related duties.
  • Prepares and assists with the preparation of the operating room according to the needs and age appropriateness of the patient and the surgical procedure.
  • Anticipates the surgeon's needs and prepares supplies accordingly.
  • Applies knowledge of surgical procedures and seeks circulating nurse's assistance when needed.
  • Attends and participates in in-services and other continuing education opportunities.
  • Maintains correct counts of sponges, needles, and instruments.
  • Acknowledges the importance of patient safety by handling medications correctly.
  • Assists in the care and labeling of specimens.
  • Prepares O.R. equipment and supplies while performing patient care duties.
  • Demonstrates effective time management skills.
  • Cares for one or more of the following age groups routinely: Neonates, Infants, Toddler, Preschool Age, School Age, Adolescent, and Adult.

Skills & Requirements

  • Required educational program completion for surgical technologists.
  • Required CST-SUR - Cert-Cert Surgical TECH by the National Board of Surgical Technology and Surgical Assisting.
  • Required TSC-NCCT - Cert-TECH Surgery - Certified NCCT by the National Center for Competency Testing.
  • Required 2 years' experience as a surgical technologist and experience in two or more surgical specialties.
