About the role
The Surgical Technologist ensures that the operating room is properly prepared with the necessary instruments and equipment and assists the surgical team throughout the procedure by passing instruments, maintaining the sterile field, and anticipating the needs of the surgeon. The role involves maintaining patient safety and ensuring that the surgical environment is organized, clean, and sterile. The Surgical Technologist assists in applying dressings, securing surgical drapes, and transferring patients to recovery areas. Adheres to infection control protocols and sterile techniques to prevent contamination and ensure patient safety. Works closely with the surgical team to ensure smooth and effective procedures.
Responsibilities
- Prepare the operating room with necessary instruments and equipment
- Assist the surgical team by passing instruments and maintaining the sterile field
- Anticipate the needs of the surgeon during procedures
- Maintain patient safety and ensure a sterile surgical environment
- Apply dressings and secure surgical drapes
- Transfer patients to recovery areas
- Adhere to infection control protocols and sterile techniques
Requirements
- Surgical Technologist licensure required in the state of Virginia
- One of the following certifications:
- Certified Surgical Technologist (CST) – National Board of Surgical Technology and Surgical Assisting (NBSTSA)
- Tech in Surgery TS-C – National Center for Competency Testing (NCCT)
- Basic Life Support (BLS) certification – American Heart Association (AHA)
- 3 years of Certified Surgical Technologist experience
