Responsibilities

  • Maintain the sterile field in the operating room, ensuring proper aseptic techniques are utilized to prevent contamination and infection.
  • Assist the surgical team as the sterile member who passes instruments, sutures, and sponges during surgery.
  • Set up the operating room and organize sterile tables with surgical instruments, equipment, sterile linens, and sterile solutions before an operation.
  • Check, adjust, and operate equipment such as sterilizers, lights, suction machines, electrosurgical units, and diagnostic equipment.
  • Maintain supply of fluids such as plasma, saline, blood, and glucose for use during operation.
  • Prepare patients for surgery by washing, shaving, and disinfecting incision sites; transport and position patients on the table, and cover them with sterile surgical drapes.
  • Scrub hands and arms, and don sterile operating room attire to work within the sterile field and handle sterilized instruments and supplies.
  • Anticipate the needs of the surgeon, passing instruments and providing sterile items efficiently.
  • Prepare, care for, and dispose of specimens taken for laboratory analysis; hold retractors, cut sutures, and apply dressings as directed.
  • Clean and restock the operating room.
  • Adhere to The Joint Commission (TJC) professional standards and attend hospital in-service training sessions as directed.
  • Provide age-appropriate care for all age groups.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent required.
  • Graduation from a surgical technology program.
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) certification required.

Schedule

  • 4X10s (four 10-hour shifts per week).
  • Shift: 7:00 AM – 5:30 PM.
  • On-call required.

Pay

$26.95 - $38.80 per hour.
