About the role
Develops and implements orientation and training programs for new surgical technicians. Mentors surgical technicians through orientation, training, role transition, career development, and continuing education.
Responsibilities
- Maintains knowledge of national and local trends in surgical technician practice.
- Makes sure required documentation for orientation and training is up-to-date.
- Evaluates orientation and training processes based on healthcare trends, learning needs, and organizational goals.
- Coaches new surgical technicians and collaborates with management on performance evaluation and growth plans.
- Facilitates and evaluates career development activities for surgical technicians.
- Fosters and maintains academic partnerships with local Surgical Technology programs.
- Facilitates student placement and ensures a positive student experience within the unit/department.
- Participates in recruitment and interviewing of staff.
- Serves as a positive change agent for all units'/departments', campuses' and system's initiatives/goals and leadership activities.
- Creates, plans, implements and coordinates activities related to systematic professional learning experiences.
- Maintains knowledge of healthcare regulatory bodies.
- Supports quality standards and initiatives set by the departments.
- Ensures that practice changes, as a result of performance improvement activities, are implemented.
- Works with hiring departments and HR to ensure students are interviewed and placed in a timely manner.

- Work independently on complex projects.
- Show conceptual and practical understanding of various training techniques for users with various learning styles.
- Show working knowledge of Microsoft Office programs such as Outlook, Word, Power Point and Excel.
- Show ability to scrub independently in at least 3 major surgical specialties.
Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Surgical Technology or related military training program.
- 9+ years of scrub tech experience in a hospital setting.
- Experience in current performance improvement frameworks and methodologies.
- Experience in healthcare related education/training.
