Certified Surgical First Assistant

About the role

Department: Surgical Services. Employment Type: Full-time. Shift: 8-hour Day Shift. Schedule: Monday‑Friday, 6:00 AM to 3:00 PM. On‑Call: Open to conversation. Location: Providence Medical Center, Kansas City, KS.

Responsibilities

• Assist surgeons during orthopedic, spine, trauma, sports medicine, and total joint replacement procedures.
• Prepare and maintain the sterile field, surgical instruments, and supplies.
• Perform tissue retraction, wound exposure, hemostasis, suturing, and wound closure as directed by the surgeon.
• Assist with patient positioning, surgical site preparation, and sterile draping.
• Anticipate the surgeon's needs and ensure appropriate instrumentation is available throughout procedures.
• Maintain compliance with aseptic technique, patient safety standards, and regulatory requirements.
• Collaborate with surgeons, anesthesia providers, nurses, and perioperative staff to support optimal surgical outcomes.

Qualifications

• Certification in Surgical Technology/Certified First Assistant.
• Successful completion of a training program in a recognized First Assistant program.
• Five years’ experience in an acute care operating room in the scrub role (preferred).
• Current Basic Life Support (BLS) for Health Care Provider affirmation by American Heart Association.
• Basic computer skills.
