About the role
The Surgical Assistant II at Sentara Martha Jefferson Hospital - Operating Room is responsible for assisting surgeons during surgeries, performing preoperative and postoperative duties, and participating in departmental improvement efforts.
Responsibilities
- Anticipate and assist the surgical team with tasks such as setting up equipment, retraction, cauterization, suturing, and closing incisions.
- Provide medications and dressings as needed.
- Communicate effectively with the surgical team to optimize patient outcomes.
- Assist in maintaining sterile environments and ensuring proper sterilization techniques are followed.
- Perform preoperative and postoperative duties to facilitate patient care.
- Participate in quality improvement projects and in-services.
Requirements
- Graduate of a CAAHEP (Commission on Accreditation of Allied Health Education Programs) accredited Surgical Assistant Program.
- Certified Surgical Assistant (CSA) from NCCSA.
- Certified Surgical First Assistant (CSFA) from NBSTSA.
- Basic Life Support (BLS) certification from AHA.
- Three years of operating room experience.
