Job Summary and Qualifications

  • The Central Sterile Technician prepares Operating Room surgical case carts, decontamination, assembly and sterilization of re-processable supplies, equipment and surgical instruments in compliance with good hospital practice standards under direct or indirect supervision.
  • Properly operate cleaning and sterilization equipment, such as cart washers, sonic cleaners, washers, sterilizers, and heat-sealing units.
  • Demonstrate proper knowledge and understanding of all chemicals, detergents, and other cleaning and/or disinfecting agents used in the department.
  • Demonstrate appropriate knowledge and skill in assembly of trays and peel packs, to include identification of contents, internal chemical indicators, lot control numbers, wrapping, labeling and methods of sterilization.
  • Transport clean and soiled case carts between the operating rooms and Sterile Processing.
  • Transport additional instrumentation as needed between Peri-operative Services and CSP areas.
  • Maintain cleanliness and appropriate supply levels at workstations in all areas of department.

Qualifications

  • Basic Cardiac Life Support must be obtained within 60 days of employment start date.
  • Certified Registered Central Service Technician (CRCST) or Cert Sterile Processing and Distribution Technician (CSPDT) required.
  • Previous sterile processing technician experience is preferred.
