Position Summary

Henry Ford Health Genesys Hospital - Grand Blanc operates a rotating schedule from 11:00pm to 7:30am, 20 hours per week, including weekends and holidays.

About the Role

Serves as the central point of contact for surgical instruments and supplies. Coordinates the trial, purchase, and building of new and/or revised instrument sets. Manages inventory and ensures accurate patient charges/credits. Performs a variety of CPD technician duties including instrument washing, assembly, and wrapping for sterilization. Responds to routine and emergency requests. Maintains a clean, orderly, and safe facility.

Responsibilities

  • Double-checks case carts for completeness and availability of loaner trays.
  • Ensures timely start of the first scheduled case of the day.
  • Communicates effectively with CPD staff, OR personnel, and management.
  • Maintains service line on-hand carts and acts as liaison between CPD and OR.
  • Participates in projects to enhance departmental efficiency.
  • Assists surgeons, nurses, and surgical technicians in providing correct instrumentation and equipment for patient care.
  • Washes, reassembles, and rewinds used instruments, sets, supplies, and equipment for sterilization.
  • Operates steam sterilizers and other processing equipment.
  • Mark packages for sterilization with expiration dates.
  • Ensures all processed and stored supplies meet sanitary/sterile standards.
  • Notifies supervisor of equipment and supply issues.
  • Maintains various records and logs.

Requirements

  • Physical ability to lift at least 50 pounds and hear alarms.
  • Effective communication via phone, in person, in writing, and by computer.
  • Ability to plan, organize, and prioritize tasks.
  • High hand/eye coordination.
  • Able to move throughout the hospital and supply deliveries by elevator and stairs.
  • Able to follow and comply with hospital and department policies and procedures.
  • Able to maintain written records.
  • Able to focus on details for extended periods.
  • Able to assemble instrument trays accurately and at acceptable rates.
  • Able to select supplies for surgery cases promptly and efficiently.
  • Able to manage inventory levels, supply rotation, and storage/outdating policies.
  • Able to establish and maintain positive relationships with patients, employers, supervisors, and external contacts.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Certified Registered Central Service Technician (CRCST) from IAHCSMM or Certified Sterile Processing and Distribution Technician (CSPDT) from CBSPD.
  • Two years of relevant experience preferred.
  • In-depth knowledge and experience of surgical instrumentation.
  • Ability to identify and assemble various types of instrumentation accurately and quickly.
  • Fluent in English for reading, writing, and following instructions.
