Certified Registered Nurse Anesthetist (CRNA)

About the role

The Certified Registered Nurse Anesthetist (CRNA) manages all aspects of perioperative care including pre-operative assessment, initiation and maintenance of general anesthesia and/or sedation, airway management, emergence, and post-anesthesia care. Responsible for preparing and administering anesthetic agents to surgical patients to reversibly depress bodily functions or otherwise desensitize a patient to permit the performance of medical or surgical procedures.

Responsibilities

• Prepares and administers anesthetic agents to patients to desensitize them for medical or surgical procedures.
• Performs pre-anesthesia evaluation of the patient to ascertain physiological and psychological factors influencing anesthetic agent selection and plan formulation.
• Monitors the patient in the operating room to maintain homeostasis and prevent unnecessary injuries.
• Records anesthetic information on the anesthesia chart to provide a permanent record for patient care, teaching, study, and medical-legal documentation.
• Maintains professional appearance and demeanor in accordance with company policies.
• Actively shares ideas constructively and listens to suggestions from others.
• Keeps commitments and informs direct supervisor of work progress, timetables, and issues.
• Advocates for and assists in maintaining a clean, neat, and cheerful environment for patient comfort.
• Maintains strict compliance with state, federal, and other regulations (e.g., OSHA, WC, HIPAA, ADA, FEHA, DOL, HR policies).
• Performs other duties as assigned by management.

Requirements

• Master of Science in Nurse Anesthesia degree from an accredited California Certified Registered Nurse Anesthetist (CRNA) program.
• Experience in an Ambulatory Surgery Center setting.
• Certification as a Certified Registered Nurse Anesthetist approved and accepted by the State of California Board of Registered Nursing.
• Valid BLS card (American Heart Association).
• Valid ACLS card (American Heart Association).

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience in the Ophthalmology Industry with multiple Surgery Center locations.
• Experience in training staff.
• Experience with Regulatory and Accreditation Surveys (AAAHC Accreditation).

Work Environment

This is primarily a clinical surgery center role, working in a sterile environment. Temperature conditions are controlled with some direct exposure to hazardous physical substances. The noise level is usually low to moderate. Regular exposure to doctors, staff, vendors, and patients.

• Regularly required to sit, stand, walk, keyboard, handle or feel objects, reach with hands and arms, see, talk, and hear.
• Frequently lifts and/or carries reports, records, and other materials typically weighing less than 20 pounds.
• Occasionally required to stoop, kneel, bend, or crouch.
• Finger dexterity needed to access, enter, and retrieve data using a computer keyboard, calculator, and other standard office equipment.
