Job Summary

Prosthetist/Orthotist designs and fits artificial limbs, braces and appliances for patients with physical disability based on physician's specifications. Examines patient and prepares cast or model to assist with the construction of the appliance and selection of required materials/components. Fits finished appliance to patient and makes any adjustments to ensure comfort and maximum functionality.

Responsibilities

  • Create a comprehensive prosthetic/orthotic treatment plan to meet the needs and goals of the patient in collaboration with the ordering physician(s).
  • Perform comprehensive assessments of patients to obtain an understanding of the patients’ prosthetic/orthotic needs and goals to design the most appropriate prosthetic/orthotic devices.
  • Completes evaluations, orders (e.g., pictures and casting), deliveries and fittings of patients.
  • Select materials, make cast measurements, model modifications and layouts, considering new techniques and materials.
  • Interact with candidates in various forms including phone calls, texts, emails, and face-to-face meetings.
  • Provide continuing patient care and periodic evaluation to assure/maintain/document optimal fit and function of the prosthesis/orthosis.
  • Prepare extremely comprehensive clinical notes and documentation in a prompt and organized manner.
  • Comply with all policies, procedures, and regulations.
  • Participate in personal and professional development through continuing education, training, and research.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s Degree Required from an accredited college or university
  • Prosthetics certification recognized by the Commission on Accreditation of Allied Health Education Programs, or its equivalent required.
  • One year of experience or complete a residency program in prosthetics.
