Certified Phlebotomist - Pediatrics Clinic

About the role

If you enjoy phlebotomy and providing exceptional patient care, this is a unique opportunity to put your skills to work in a high-volume clinical setting. This position is based in our Pediatrics department and supports patients across Pediatrics, Urology, OB/GYN, and General Surgery. Your primary responsibility will be performing laboratory specimen collections, ensuring patients have a positive experience while receiving safe, accurate, and efficient care. During slower periods in the lab, you'll assist providers and the care team with traditional Clinic Technician duties, making this a well-rounded role with a variety of responsibilities throughout the day.

Responsibilities

• Performing laboratory specimen collections, ensuring correct patient and specimen identification and specimen integrity by using appropriate techniques as required.
• Preparing samples for analytical testing, and/or distributing these specimens to the proper analytical area.
• Performing assigned patient testing, including collections for drug and alcohol screening, following chain of custody protocols.
• Transporting patient specimens and/or patients, per guidelines.
• Aliquoting and labeling specimens according to established departmental procedures and practices, delivering specimens to the technical area in a timely manner.
• Performing registration processes including collecting insurance information, verifying coverage of Advanced Beneficiary Notices, obtaining authorizations and signatures.
• Verifying patient demographics, insurance, and diagnostic test information, and accurately entering data into appropriate systems to ensure accurate documentation and billing.
• Focusing on quality by assuring that all work performed is accurate and complete. Initiating computer-generated reports as required for patient reporting and quality assurance monitoring.
• Completing documents and records legibly and accurately per site protocol. Maintaining familiarity with departmental procedures. Using appropriate documentation to record communications.
• Communicating with physicians, clinical and hospital staff, nursing and Health Information Management Services to resolve outstanding issues and/or patient concerns. Acting as a liaison between the patient and lab charge services department to resolve outstanding issues, patient concerns, and maximize service excellence.
• Maintaining laboratory equipment. Maintaining a clean, safe work environment and making appropriate reagents/bleach.
• Performing other technical support functions as determined by the department. Troubleshooting routine problems within their area of responsibility.
• Aiding in inventory management and ordering of supplies.
• Recognizing and providing input towards opportunities for improvements in work practices, and processes.

Requirements

• High school diploma/GED or equivalent working knowledge.
• Phlebotomy certification is required upon hire.
• BLS certification is required.

Qualifications

• Must be able to communicate effectively in both oral and written formats.
• Preferred qualifications include additional related education, certifications, and/or experience, as well as previous specimen processing and send out experience.

Pay

Compensation ranges from $20 - $26.75 based on education and experience. Additional pay includes shift differential, annual increases, and paid time off.

Schedule

Full-time, 40 hours per week, 5x8 hour shifts.
