About the Role

The Certified Pharmacy Technician assists the pharmacist in ensuring timely and accurate provision of medications to patients. Responsibilities are performed under the direct supervision of a pharmacist and include unit dose dispensing, sterile and non-sterile compounding, medication packaging, inventory control, record keeping, billing, and use of equipment and automated technology.

Mount Carmel offers an elevated Certified Pharmacy Tech – Sterile Compounding compensation program for all sterile compounding trained technicians, regardless of prior experience. Following completion of our standardized training program, all signed-off technicians will be approved for elevated compensation.

Responsibilities

  • Establish a working identity with the Pharmacy Team and build upon the culture following in-depth, role-specific training.
  • Prepare sterile products (including chemotherapy) using aseptic technique, in compliance with regulatory standards.
  • Prepare non-sterile products (including hazardous medication), in compliance with regulatory standards.
  • Repackage bulk oral medication using Parata Systems and Medical Packaging Inc robots.
  • Facilitate medication dispensing via Automated Dispensing Cabinets on patient care units.
  • Assist in dispensing orders/prescriptions through the pharmacy inventory system.
  • Assist in inventory control by processing the daily Pharmacy Department order; ensure proper stock rotation, storage, and appropriate expiration dating. Escalate medication and non-medication orders to the Purchasing Team.
  • Assist the department with proper billing of patients and other units.

Requirements

  • High school graduation or equivalent.
  • Approved Pharmacy Technician Certification.
  • Active registration as a Certified Technician with the Ohio State Board of Pharmacy.
  • Previous pharmacy technician experience is preferred.
  • Effective communication skills.
  • Aptitude in mathematical manipulations (ratios, proportions, multiplication, division, decimals, and fractions).
  • Desire to build a career and elevate working pharmacy knowledge to the extent of Certified Pharmacy Technician Certification.
