Certified Pharmacy Technician- Full Time Days

Summary

Aid in the pharmacy department's activities to ensure high-quality patient care.

Major Job Functions

  • Support medication preparation by selecting, counting, compounding, reconstituting, packaging, and labeling according to departmental guidelines.
  • Maintain and replenish inventory of medications and supplies across the health system.
  • Refill and deliver unit dose cart fills, pyxis batches, parenteral TPNs, IV admixtures, and bulk stock items promptly to designated areas.
  • Participate in nursing unit inspections and the department’s surveillance program to prevent expired medications from being used.
  • Ensure patient and employee privacy by securing confidential records and releasing information only to authorized individuals.
  • Assist in training new pharmacy technicians and pharmacy students.
  • Develop competence in inventory management, controlled substances, compounding, medication history taking, and ADC operations within the first year of employment.

Minimum Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent required.
  • PTCB certification or ExCPhT completion required.
  • North Carolina Board of Pharmacy registration required, with initial registration within 30 days of hire.
  • Completion of a pharmacy technician program preferred.
  • One year experience as a pharmacy technician preferred.

Knowledge, Skills, And Abilities

  • Proficiency in English reading, writing, and communication.
  • Critical thinking and ability to handle urgent situations promptly.
  • Competence and proficiency in telephone triage for excellent customer service.
  • Detail-oriented with accuracy in departmental activities.
  • Teamwork and ability to work various shifts including day, evening, and third shift.

Physical Requirements

  • Ability to work various schedules including day, evening, and third shift.
  • Strength to lift up to 10 pounds.
  • Visual acuity to read physician orders, medication labels, etc.
  • Manual dexterity to use computer systems.
  • Standing and walking for long periods.
  • Stair climbing as needed.

Required Licenses And Certifications

  • Pharm Tech - NC Board of Pharmacy.
