Certified Pharmacy Technician

About the Role

Assists the pharmacist, under direct supervision, in the practice of pharmacy in accordance with state, federal, and company policies. Responsible for using pharmacy systems to obtain patient and drug information and process prescriptions. If PTCB certified, assists with and coaches pharmacy technicians in the operation of pharmacy systems and cashiers in the operation of the pharmacy cash registers.

Responsibilities

• Models and delivers a distinctive and delightful customer experience by engaging customers, resolving issues, and sharing best practices with team members.
• Under pharmacist supervision, assists in pharmacy operations including entering patient and drug information, filling prescriptions, verifying medicine accuracy, and checking for interactions.
• Assists pharmacists in scheduling and maintaining workflow, and reports prescription errors immediately.
• Adheres to Good Faith Dispensing policies and handles cash register transactions, including related sales and customer assistance.
• Processes manual claims for third-party prescription services and performs clerical duties as assigned.
• Supports inventory management activities such as ordering, unpacking, and storing pharmaceutical shipments.
• Files claims for warehouse overages, shortages, or damaged goods involving prescription drugs.
• May assist in administering clinical services, including collecting and labeling blood/urine samples, and coordinating with healthcare clinics and providers.
• Assists in maintaining relationships with the local medical community through outreach and detailing.
• Ensures the pharmacy department is stocked, clean, and orderly.
• Completes special assignments and other tasks as assigned.

Requirements

• Must be fluent in reading, writing, and speaking English (except in Puerto Rico).
• Requires willingness to work a flexible schedule, including evenings and weekends.

Preferred Qualifications

• Six months of experience in a retail environment.
• Prior work experience with Walgreens.
• Good math skills for accurate prescription filling.
• Good computer skills.
• Knowledge of store inventory control.
• PTCB certification.

Training & Personal Development

• Earns and maintains PTCB certification through designated training or state requirements.
• Completes training and PPLs requested by management and acquires continuing education credits.
• Maintains knowledge and skills in healthcare and pharmacy, including industry developments.

Pay

Salary Range: $17.50 - $21.00 / Hourly
