About the role

Assists the pharmacist, under direct supervision, in the practice of pharmacy in accordance with state, federal, and company policy. Models and delivers a distinctive and delightful customer experience by engaging customers and patients, resolving issues, and sharing best practices with the team. Supports pharmacy operations including inventory management, cash handling, and clerical duties. May assist with clinical services and community outreach. Complies with all company policies and procedures and maintains respectful coworker relationships.

Responsibilities

  • Assists the pharmacist in pharmacy practice and workflow, including entering patient and drug information, filling prescriptions, and verifying medication accuracy.
  • Processes prescriptions using pharmacy systems and ensures information is entered correctly.
  • Handles cash register transactions and collects cash as required.
  • Answers customer calls that do not require the pharmacist’s direct attention.
  • Processes manual claims for third-party prescription services and performs other clerical duties as assigned.
  • Supports inventory management activities such as ordering, unpacking, checking, and storing pharmaceuticals.
  • Maintains knowledge of asset protection techniques and files claims for warehouse discrepancies involving Rx drugs.
  • May assist with clinical services, including collecting and labeling blood/urine samples, and coordinating with healthcare providers.
  • Assists in developing and maintaining relationships with local medical professionals and community groups.
  • Ensures the Pharmacy Department is stocked, clean, and orderly.
  • Models and shares customer service best practices, including interpersonal habits and Walgreens service traits.

Training & Personal Development

  • Earns and maintains PTCB certification through designated training programs and/or state requirements; otherwise, earns PTCB certification as a condition of promotion to senior technician.
  • Attends requested training sessions and completes assigned PPLs; acquires continuing education credits.
  • Maintains up-to-date knowledge and skills in healthcare and pharmacy, including the latest news and developments.

Requirements

  • Fluency in reading, writing, and speaking English (except in Puerto Rico).
  • Willingness to work a flexible schedule, including evenings and weekends.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Six months of experience in a retail environment.
  • Prior work experience with Walgreens.
  • Strong math skills for accurate prescription filling, including counting, measuring, and weighing medications.
  • Proficiency in computer skills.
  • Knowledge of store inventory control.
  • PTCB certification.
