Location: Moccasin Bend Mental Health Institute, Chattanooga, TN. Full-time position requiring a criminal background check.

Overview

Under general supervision of a licensed pharmacist, performs a variety of pharmacy-related work of average difficulty. Functions include assisting pharmacists with dispensing or pre-packing drugs, creating and maintaining patient profiles, adding new patients' orders, and discontinuing orders as appropriate. Certified Pharmacy Technicians may receive new or transferred oral medical and prescription orders, transfer copies of orders between pharmacy sites, and verify unit dose carts prepared by other registered pharmacy technicians.

Responsibilities

• Fills medication orders under pharmacist supervision by selecting correct medications, labeling, and placing them into appropriate containers.
• Processes medication orders by entering information into patient records, calculating and adjusting medication quantities, and checking for drug-related issues.
• Takes inventory of pharmacy medications and supplies, adjusting records as needed.
• Communicates professionally with pharmacists, medical staff, and vendors regarding medication-related issues (e.g., drug interactions, allergies, dosing).
• May process requisitions and reconcile invoices through the state's procurement system.
• Verifies and records patients' personal medications, maintaining them in the pharmacy until discharge.
• Delivers medication to and from pharmacy and nursing stations, including routine and emergency deliveries.
• Monitors high-risk medications, refrigerators/freezers for medication storage, and pharmacy supply levels.
• Reconciles shipments with invoices to ensure accuracy.
• Completes continuing education to maintain pharmacy technician certification.
• May participate in CPR, crisis management, or other job-related training.

Requirements

• Pharmacy Technician Certification from the national Pharmacy Technician Certification Board.
• Registration as a pharmacy technician with the State of Tennessee Board of Pharmacy (required upon employment).
• Certification and registration must be maintained throughout employment.
• Valid motor vehicle operator's license may be required.

Pay

Monthly: $2,896.00 - $4,331.00
Annually: $34,752.00 - $51,972.00
