About the role

The Certified Pharmacy Technician aids pharmacists in providing pharmaceutical care services to patients by assisting in the preparation, dispensing, record keeping, and transporting of medications for all patients including neonatal, pediatric, adolescence, adult, and geriatric age groups.

Responsibilities

  • Performs tasks designated by the pharmacist to assist in patient care that do not legally require a pharmacist’s supervision or verification.
  • Communicates effectively with all staff members.
  • Identifies equipment or operational problems and brings them to the attention of a pharmacist or pharmacy manager.
  • Interacts with other health care practitioners in a multidisciplinary environment.

Requirements

  • Licensure, Certification, or Registration Requirements for Hire: Current certification by the Pharmacy Technician Certification Board (PTCB) and current licensure with the Virginia State Board of Pharmacy.
  • Licensure, Certification, or Registration Requirements for continued employment: Current certification by the Pharmacy Technician Certification Board (PTCB) and current licensure with the Virginia State Board of Pharmacy.
  • Experience: One year previous pharmacy practice experience in a similar setting preferred.
  • Education/training: High school diploma or equivalent education required.

Qualifications

  • Clean criminal record (no felony conviction, no drug or pharmacy related convictions, no denial, suspension, revocation, or restriction of registration or licensure by any State Board of Pharmacy).
