About the role
We are hiring for a Certified Peer Support Specialist / CPSS for TMS Team. This position serves as an advocate for the person supported, promotes recovery, and integrates individual preferences into treatment, rehabilitation, and community self-help activities.
Responsibilities
- Provides advice and support to clients in accordance with a treatment plan
- Assists in peer support groups
- Aids clients in daily decision-making and problem-solving
- Encourages participation in community activities
- Fosters healthy relationships between clients
- Models effective coping and self-help techniques
- Shares information about community resources and appropriate use
Requirements
- High School Diploma or GED or equivalent
- One year of experience working with persons with the population supported
- Certified as a Peer Support Specialist or one continuous year as a current or former recipient of treatment (including mental health/substance abuse treatment or diagnosis)
- Minimum of twenty (20) hours of training specific to the required components of the specific service definition including crisis response within the first 90 days of employment
- Valid drivers' license and automotive insurance
- Pass background check and drug screen
- CPR, first aid, NCI, or role-related certification (a plus)
Qualifications
- Physical requirements: Regularly lift 10 lbs, pull 10 lbs, squat, kneel, crawl, crouch, climb, and stoop
- Vision requirements: Close vision, distance vision, and peripheral vision
- Communication requirements: Talk and hear
Skills
- Strong interpersonal skills
- Knowledge of mental health and substance abuse treatment
- Experience working with individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team
