Certified Support Specialist will provide Recovery Coaching to members struggling with mental health and substance use disorders. The CPSS functions as a role model to peers, exhibits competency in personal recovery and coping skills, serves as a member advocate, provides information and peer support in outpatient settings, and assists with communication, conflict‑resolution, and crisis‑intervention skill development. The specialist helps adult peers regain independence, identify obstacles, link to the recovery community, and act as a personal guide and mentor.
Responsibilities
- Provide quality of care to patients in compliance with organizational, licensing, and credentialing standards.
- Conduct individual and group counseling support services to assist members with treatment enrollment and goal attainment.
- Produce clear and concise documentation for all support and counseling services rendered.
- Provide appropriate referrals to members in need.
- Motivate members toward change, recovery, coping‑skill development, and safe, productive living.
- Provide crisis intervention as needed.
- Facilitate groups, lead community‑integration outings, and deliver individual supports for the psychosocial rehab program.
- Educate members about mental illness and appropriate medication to avoid complications and relapse.
- Offer opportunities to learn and use independent living skills.
- Enhance social and interpersonal skills within a supportive, Medicaid‑compliant program structure.
- Transport individuals to and from groups and community outings, conduct educational groups, and respond to medical or behavioral emergencies using agency‑approved techniques.
- Maintain clear legal and ethical boundaries with members, staff, and community resources.
- Interact and collaborate with peers and other professionals to ensure comprehensive, quality care.
Qualifications
- High School Diploma or GED equivalent.
- 1–2 years of experience working with mental health/substance‑abuse populations.
- North Carolina Certified Peer Support Specialist (required).
- Valid driver’s license and reliable transportation.
- Current auto insurance.
- Ability to submit to background check and drug screen.
- Minimum of 2 years consecutive recovery.
- Excellent oral and written communication skills.
- Knowledge of the 12 Core Functions.

- Peer Support Specialist certification (preferred).
- CPR/First Aid certification.
- NCI Plus.

Pay
From $15.00 per hour
Schedule
- Day shift – Monday to Friday
- Night shift as needed
- Weekends as needed
