About the role

MHP is seeking a full-time Certified Peer Specialist Trainee. This role involves initiating a 90-day training period to provide flexible, community-based services that promote empowerment, recovery, and community integration for individuals with extensive mental health conditions. The position includes facilitating recovery processes, teaching and supporting individuals in acquiring and utilizing skills, and promoting community involvement.

Responsibilities

  • Collaborate with participants to create self-directed goals for recovery.
  • Support participants with educational, employment, and social-related goals, including accessing mental health and substance use services, budgeting, and exploring housing options according to their support plans.
  • Attend socialization activities such as amusement parks, festivals, recovery learning centers, and 12-step meetings.
  • Create WRAP Plans and encourage the development of mental health advanced directives; facilitate peer support groups on participants' interests as needed.
  • Document participant progress in the electronic health records system.
  • Perform other duties as assigned to fulfill MHP's mission.

Requirements

  • A minimum of a High School or GED Diploma; an Associate’s Degree in a Human Services related field is preferred.
  • Credentialed as a Certified Peer Specialist and eligible for certification through the PA Certification Board.
  • One year of behavioral health experience preferred.
  • Basic computer skills to perform job duties including desktop computing, e-mail, timesheet management, electronic health records, internet research, etc., and the ability to learn software applications relevant to your position.
  • Strong oral and written communication, cultural competence, interpersonal relationships, teamwork, attention to detail, customer service, time management, autonomy, problem-solving, and organizational skills.
  • A valid driver's license.

  • Must be able to work under pressure and meet deadlines and billable unit requirements, while maintaining a positive attitude and providing exemplary customer service.

Pay

The starting salary is $16.50/hour, with a promotion to Certified Peer Specialist earning $17.50/hour.

Schedule

The role is full-time, Monday - Friday, 8:00 AM - 4:00 PM.

Physical Demands

80% of a Certified Peer Specialist's time is spent in community settings and/or outreach. Certified Peer Specialists must be able to travel within the community that may not be accessible: walk, drive agency vehicles, and/or take public transportation depending on the needs of the program.
