About the role
Community-based role focused on the Child and Adolescent populations. Outcomes of these services include increased rehabilitative skills-building, improved family functioning, greater access to wellness-promoting resources, and enhanced emotional and functional improvement within the family.
Responsibilities
- Facilitating peer support among the participating group family members
- Aiding families in gaining skills to promote the families’ recovery process (e.g., self-advocacy, developing natural support, etc.)
- Supporting family voice and choice by assisting the family in assuming the lead roles in all multi-disciplinary team meetings
- Listening to the family’s needs and concerns from a peer perspective, and offering suggestions for engagement in planning process
- Providing ongoing emotional support, modeling and mentoring during all phases of the planning services/support planning process
- Helping families better understand services offered by service providers, and assisting with understanding policies, procedures, and regulations that impact on the youth while living in the community
- Ensuring the engagement and active participation of the family and youth in the planning process and guiding families toward taking a pro-active and self-managing role in their youth's treatment
- Assisting the family with the acquisition of the skills and knowledge necessary to sustain an awareness of the youth's needs as well as his/her strengths and the development and enhancement of the family's unique problem‐solving skills, coping mechanisms, and strategies for the youth.
- Any other duties assigned by Child and Adolescent Community Services Manager and/or Director of the C&A Department.
Requirements
- Must have a current driver’s license.
- Mandatory Office Presence: Staff are required to perform in-person work at the agency office and in the community.
- Flexible Availability: Hours of availability must vary based on the needs of the clients, which includes availability during late evenings and weekends.
- Physical Capability: Staff must be able to drive, climb stairs, and walk at least one block to provide services in various settings.
- Services will be provided in home or in the community to include public buildings such as the library and government agencies.
- Hours of availability can vary based on need of clients to include late evenings and weekends.
- Ability to use a computer, telephone, fax, copy and scanning machine.
- Completes/passes agency-sponsored defensive driving course, as well as all other agency-required training courses.
Skills
- Must be a Certified Peer Specialist – Parent or meet criteria to be certified as a Certified Peer Specialist Parent (CPS-P).
Compensation and Benefits
