Certified Peace Officer

About the role

A Certified Law Enforcement Officer is sought for a position with the City of Port Orchard. Candidates must hold a valid Peace Officer Certification from the Washington State Criminal Justice Training Commission, have been employed as a full-time sworn police officer within the past 24 months, and not be eligible to apply as a Lateral Officer.

Responsibilities

• Respond to emergency and routine calls for service
• Apprehend violators or offenders of the law
• Tactically de-escalate verbal attacks
• Operate a motor vehicle for extended periods
• Conduct patrols in various modes of transportation
• Monitor and enforce traffic laws
• Investigate traffic collisions
• Provide first aid, CPR, or naloxone
• Conduct detailed investigations and gather information
• Prepare detailed investigative reports
• Prepare affidavits for search warrants
• Interview witnesses and suspects
• Develop and use informants
• Perform searches of people, vehicles, buildings, and large outdoor areas
• Record information related to daily patrol activities
• Attend and actively participate in meetings, training courses, and seminars
• Assist in the coordination of multi-agency responses
• Conduct light preventative maintenance on departmental equipment

Requirements

• High school diploma or GED equivalent
• Must be 21 years of age or older
• A citizen of the United States of America, a lawful permanent resident, or a Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals recipient
• Valid Peace Officer Certification from the Washington State Criminal Justice Training Commission
• Been employed as a full-time sworn police officer within the past 24 months
• Not be eligible to apply as a Lateral Officer

Qualifications

• Education pay: 2% for an Associate Degree, 4% for a Bachelor’s degree or higher
• Longevity pay: 0.25% each year the employee is employed with the City, starting on year 3
• Bilingual pay: 2% for fluency in Spanish, Tagalog, Korean, and/or American Sign Language

Pay

The base hourly pay range for this position is $43.66 - $54.03. Starting salary range is between $43.66 - $49.68 per hour. The advertised pay range is the full range for a police officer.

Schedule

Shifts may vary, and the Patrol Officer may be required to work Saturdays, Sundays, holidays, and overtime as needed.
