You will provide specialized care for patients while building connections with co-workers. Location: 1625 N Campbell Ave, Tucson, Arizona and 2800 E. Ajo Way, Tucson, Arizona — you will float between both locations.

Schedule

  • Full-time or part-time shifts available (2 or 3 - 12-hour shifts)
  • No set schedules
  • Weekend rotations required
  • Rotating holidays required

Pay

  • Flat rate $1/hour weekend shift differential
  • 18% night shift differential when applicable

About the Role

This position provides routine patient care to promote patient comfort and contribute to the overall patient plan of care. You will be responsible for ongoing patient data collection and documentation in medical records, as well as performing a variety of unit support functions that contribute to the efficient operation of the nursing unit/department.

Responsibilities

  • Assists in activities of daily living, including basic hygiene, mobility, and nutritional intake as needed.
  • Collects patient specimens and data, such as vital signs, input/output, and other delegated measurements in accordance with unit/facility policy and standards of care.
  • Documents objective data and routine aspects of patient care.
  • Assists in the transportation of patient specimens.
  • Recognizes and reports abnormalities and/or changes in patient health status to a licensed professional.
  • Promotes continuity of care by accurately communicating patient status to other caregivers.
  • Performs procedures and uses equipment as delegated by a licensed professional, including blood draws, Foley catheter removal, EKGs, and EKG monitoring.
  • Provides necessary supplies, support, and assistance to medical staff and patients for unit-specific procedures.
  • Performs receptionist/clerical duties to support overall operating efficiency and effective communication.
  • Participates in resolving customer problems or collects necessary data for follow-through.
  • Maintains complete patient records, including admission, transfer, discharge information, progress notes, and consent forms.
  • Ensures all reports and chart forms are scanned or filed into the patient’s record.
  • Maintains adequate supplies of frequently used patient education materials.
  • Assists in ordering patient specimens and transcribes/processes physician orders using the electronic medical record.
  • Maintains adequate levels of office, dietary, and medical supplies; completes requisition forms and reconciles supply orders.
  • Monitors and tracks electronic equipment such as patient ID scanners and laptops.
  • May assist with transporting patients, including pre-operative and immediate post-operative patients to critical care units.
  • Participates in OR room turnover.

This position works under supervision in a fast-paced, sometimes stressful environment with a strong focus on customer service. You will interact with staff at all levels, as well as patients, families, and physicians.

Requirements

  • High school diploma/GED or equivalent working knowledge.
  • Current BLS certification required.
  • Current Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) in state of practice required for new hires and transfers. In Tucson: existing incumbents may not transfer out of their geographical market without meeting the CNA requirement.
  • Skills and abilities typically attained with 1 year of medical clerical experience, preferably in a hospital or physician office setting, or prior customer service experience.
  • Excellent organizational, human relations, and communication skills.
  • Working knowledge of medical terminology and computer literacy, including keyboarding skills.
  • Depending on department assignment, a minimum passing score of 85% on ECG or EEG test with accurate identification of all lethal cardiac dysrhythmias and epileptiform activity is required.
  • Successful completion of either a unit-approved basic electrocardiogram interpretation course, electroencephalographic interpretation course, or on-the-job training.
  • For positions at Banner Behavioral Health Hospital, BTMC Behavioral, BUMG, BUMCT, or BUMCS in a Behavioral Health clinical setting serving children: possession of an Arizona Fingerprint Clearance Card at the time of hire and maintained for the duration of employment. An Arizona Criminal History Affidavit must be signed upon hire.
  • For Banner Home Care AZ: possession of an Arizona Fingerprint Clearance Card at the time of hire and maintained for the duration of employment.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Licensed Nursing Assistant (LNA) licensure in Arizona.
  • Recent healthcare experience.
  • Successful completion of an approved unit secretary program.
