About the role

This position provides routine patient care to promote patient comfort and contribute to the overall patient plan of care. It is responsible for ongoing patient data collection and documentation in the medical records and provides a variety of unit support functions which contribute to the efficient operation of the nursing unit/department.

Responsibilities

  • Assists in activities of daily living and completes tasks to promote patient health, including hygiene, mobility, and nutritional intake
  • Collects patient specimens and data (vital signs, input/output, delegated measurements) per unit/facility policy and standards of care
  • Documents objective data and routine aspects of patient care
  • Assists in transporting patient specimens
  • Recognizes and reports abnormalities or changes in patient health status and responses to treatment to licensed professionals
  • Promotes continuity of care by communicating patient status to other caregivers
  • Performs delegated procedures and uses equipment consistent with scope of practice, including blood draws, Foley catheter removal, EKGs, and EKG monitoring
  • Provides supplies, support, and assistance to medical staff and patients for unit-specific procedures under licensed supervision
  • Performs receptionist/clerical duties to support unit operations and communication flow
  • Participates in resolving customer problems and follows through to appropriate resolution
  • Maintains complete patient records with admission, transfer, discharge, progress notes, and consent forms
  • Ensures reports and chart forms are scanned or filed; maintains accessible charting forms
  • Maintains adequate supplies of patient education materials and orders patient specimens
  • May transcribe and process physician orders using the electronic medical record
  • Maintains adequate levels of office, dietary, and medical supplies; completes requisition forms and reconciles deliveries
  • Monitors and tracks electronic equipment (patient ID scanners, laptops) for accountability and functionality
  • Assists with transporting patients, including pre- and post-operative patients to critical care units
  • Participates in OR room turnover

Work schedule

  • Full-time night shifts available (3 × 12-hour shifts)
  • Shift hours: 6:00 pm – 6:30 am
  • No set days scheduled each week
  • Weekend and holiday rotations required
  • $1/hour weekend shift differential
  • 18% night shift differential when applicable

Requirements

  • High school diploma/GED or equivalent working knowledge
  • Current BLS certification required
  • Current Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) in state of practice required for new hires and transfers
  • Typically attained with 1 year of medical clerical experience (preferably in hospital or physician office) or prior customer service experience
  • Excellent organizational, human relations, and communication skills
  • Working knowledge of medical terminology and computer literacy/keyboarding skills

Preferred qualifications

  • Licensed Nursing Assistant (LNA) licensure preferred in Arizona
  • Recent healthcare experience preferred
  • Successful completion of an approved unit secretary program preferred
