About the role

As a Certified Patient Care Assistant, you will join our 6th Floor (Specialty Neurology) Progressive Care Unit (PCU) at Banner Boswell Medical Center. Banner Boswell has provided exceptional health care to the northwest area of metro-Phoenix since 1970 and is nationally recognized by U.S. News and World Report as one of Arizona’s Best Hospitals. The Heart Center at Banner Boswell is recognized for cardiovascular preventive care, diagnostics, medical and surgical treatment, and rehabilitation. Our clinical neurosciences program specializes in comprehensive diagnostics, therapeutic interventions, and neurosurgical treatments, including deep brain stimulation for Parkinson’s disease or essential tremor. Banner Boswell is a Joint Commission Certified Primary Stroke Center.

Schedule

  • Full-time Day shift (3-12’s), 6:00 AM – 6:30 PM
  • Self-scheduling tool available for shift and weekend coverage
  • No set days each week; weekend rotations required
  • Rotating holidays required
  • Flat rate $1/hour weekend shift differential
  • 18% night shift differential when applicable

Responsibilities

  • Provides assistance in activities of daily living, including basic hygiene, mobility, and nutritional intake.
  • Collects patient specimens and data (vital signs, input/output, and other delegated measurements).
  • Documents objective data and routine aspects of patient care in medical records.
  • Assists in the transportation of patient specimens.
  • Recognizes and reports abnormalities or changes in patient health status to licensed professionals.
  • Promotes continuity of care by communicating patient status to other caregivers.
  • Performs procedures and uses equipment as delegated (e.g., blood draws, foley catheter removal, EKGs, EKG monitoring).
  • Provides supplies, support, and assistance for unit-specific procedures under direct supervision.
  • Performs receptionist/clerical duties to support unit efficiency and communication flow.
  • Participates in resolving customer problems or escalates issues appropriately.
  • Maintains complete patient records, including admission, transfer, discharge information, and consent forms.
  • Ensures all reports and forms are scanned or filed into patient records.
  • Maintains adequate supplies of patient education materials, office, dietary, and medical supplies.
  • Assists in ordering patient specimens and reconciles supply orders upon delivery.
  • Monitors and tracks electronic equipment (e.g., patient ID scanners, laptops).
  • May assist with transporting patients, including pre-operative and post-operative patients to critical care.
  • Participates in OR room turnover.

Requirements

  • High school diploma/GED or equivalent working knowledge.
  • Current BLS certification.
  • Current Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) in state of practice (required for new hires and transfers).
  • 1 year of medical clerical experience (preferably in a hospital or physician office) or prior customer service experience.
  • Excellent organizational, human relations, and communication skills.
  • Working knowledge of medical terminology and computer literacy/keyboarding skills.
  • Depending on department assignment, must pass an ECG or EEG test with a minimum score of 85%, accurately identifying lethal cardiac dysrhythmias and epileptiform activity.
  • Successful completion of a unit-approved basic electrocardiogram or electroencephalographic interpretation course, or on-the-job training.
  • Arizona Fingerprint Clearance Card required for employees at Banner Behavioral Health Hospital, BTMC Behavioral, BUMG, BUMCT, BUMCS in a Behavioral Health clinical setting serving children, or Banner Home Care AZ (must maintain for duration of employment).
  • Must sign an Arizona Criminal History Affidavit upon hire.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Licensed Nursing Assistant (LNA) licensure in Arizona.
  • Recent healthcare experience.
  • Successful completion of an approved unit secretary program.
