Summary
The Certified Occupational Therapy Assistant (COTA) works under the direction and supervision of a licensed Occupational Therapist to assist residents in developing, recovering, and maintaining activities of daily living and functional skills. The COTA provides therapeutic interventions, documents resident progress, and collaborates with the interdisciplinary care team to support positive clinical outcomes and resident satisfaction.

Key Responsibilities
- Provide safe, effective nursing care per care plans and physician orders
- Administer medications and treatments accurately
- Absess residents and report changes promptly
- Document care in the EMR
- Supervise and mentor LPNs and CNAs
- Ensure infection control and safety compliance
- Collaborate with the interdisciplinary care team
Qualifications
- Carry out individualized occupational therapy treatment plans established by the Occupational Therapist
- Assist residents in improving mobility, strength, coordination, self-care skills, and independence with daily activities
- Observe, monitor, and document resident progress and responses to treatment
- Communicate changes in resident condition or functional status to the supervising Occupational Therapist and interdisciplinary team
- Maintain accurate and timely therapy documentation in accordance with facility, state, and federal guidelines
- Educate residents, families, and caregivers regarding therapy programs and safety techniques
- Ensure therapy equipment and treatment areas are clean, safe, and organized
- Participate in care plan meetings and interdisciplinary team discussions as needed
- Promote resident dignity, respect, and quality of life in all interactions
- Maintain compliance with HIPAA and all applicable healthcare regulations
