Position Summary

Under the direction and supervision of a licensed Occupational Therapist, the Certified Occupational Therapy Assistant (COTA) implements individualized treatment plans designed to improve residents' functional abilities, independence, and overall quality of life. The COTA works collaboratively with the interdisciplinary care team to deliver high-quality, resident-centered care in a continuing care retirement community.

Essential Responsibilities

  • Carry out occupational therapy treatment plans established by the Occupational Therapist.
  • Assist residents in improving activities of daily living (ADLs), mobility, strength, coordination, and functional independence.
  • Monitor resident participation and progress during therapy sessions while providing encouragement and motivation.
  • Observe, document, and communicate changes in residents' condition, performance, and response to treatment.
  • Educate residents and family members on home exercise programs, adaptive techniques, and the safe use of assistive devices.
  • Collaborate with therapists, nursing staff, physicians, and other interdisciplinary team members to ensure coordinated resident care.
  • Maintain accurate, timely documentation within the electronic medical record (EMR).
  • Ensure compliance with all federal, state, facility, and professional practice standards.
  • Assist with department organization and other duties as assigned.
  • Participate in weekend coverage as needed based on resident census.

Qualifications

  • Graduate of an accredited Occupational Therapy Assistant program.
  • Current New Jersey Certified Occupational Therapy Assistant (COTA) license in good standing.
  • Previous experience in skilled nursing, rehabilitation, or senior living is preferred, but new graduates are encouraged to apply.
  • Experience using electronic medical records (EMR) is preferred.
