About the Role
The Certified Nursing Assistant performs various patient care activities and related nonprofessional services necessary in caring for the personal needs and comfort of patients. The role assists with patient cleaning, feeding, and preparation for treatment, takes and records vital signs, changes bed linen, prepares treatment trays and other supplies, and supports nursing service personnel with a variety of patient care duties. This position relies on established guidelines to accomplish tasks and works under close supervision.
Responsibilities
- Patient Care:
- Assists in preparing unit, patient room, and bed to ensure patients are adequately accommodated during their stay.
- Assists and accompanies patients during admission, transfer, and discharge with compassion and understanding.
- Takes and records vital signs (temperature, pulse, respiration, weight, height, blood pressure, intake-output) and documents in CIS.
- Reports unusual incidents or changes in patient condition/behavior to appropriate personnel.
- Assists with activities of daily living (bed bath, oral hygiene, shaving, dressing, back rubs, linen freshening) and general care (positioning, pre-/post-operative care, bed pan assistance) with compassion and understanding.
- Prepares patients for meals, serves food, and feeds patients as needed with respect for their needs.
- Transports patients to/from designated areas, ensuring identification bracelets are in place and demonstrating compassion in all interactions.
- Retrieves medications from the pneumatic tube system or pharmacy and delivers them to the nurse or secure location as directed.
- Quality:
- Answers patient call lights, assists with personal hygiene and activities of daily living, and maintains a clean, safe, and comfortable environment.
- Cleans rooms and equipment, prepares for sterilization, reports damaged equipment, and handles linen/supplies efficiently.
- Provides input for end-of-shift reports, CIS documentation, and participates in unit quality assurance programs.
- Utilizes equipment, supplies, and resources prudently to ensure efficient operations and high-quality care.
- Participates in staff educational programs, continuing education, and specialized skill training to enhance performance.
- Collaboration & Partnership:
- Assists physicians with examinations, treatments, and procedures under the direction of a Registered Nurse.
- Collects and transports patient specimens to the lab as needed.
- Assists with patient rehabilitation under RN supervision and in accordance with the care plan.
- Runs inter-departmental errands (e.g., transporting lab specimens, picking up medications) for nursing personnel.

Qualifications
- Education: High School Diploma or GED
- Special Skills: Communication and Customer Service Skills
- Licensure and Certifications: Certified Nursing Assistant (Required)
