Responsibilities
- Affords assistance in preparing unit and patient room and bed to ensure adequate and proper accommodation during hospital stay.
- Affords support and accompaniment during admission, transfer, and discharge procedures, demonstrating compassion and understanding for each patient.
- Takes and records patient temperature, pulse, respiration, weight, height, blood pressure, and intake-output measurements as directed by appropriate personnel, documenting information in CIS in a caring and efficient manner.
- Assists patients with daily living activities such as bed bath, oral hygiene, shaving, dressing, back rubs, and linen freshening, providing general care including positioning, pre- and post-operative care, and assisting with bed pan use.
- Serves meals to patients and feeds them when needed, demonstrating compassion and respect for patient needs.
- Transports patients to and from designated areas of the hospital in a caring, considerate, expedient, and professional manner, ensuring patients have identification bracelets and maintaining a safe, comfortable, and therapeutic health care environment.
- Cleans rooms and equipment, prepares for sterilization and disinfection, promptly reports damaged equipment and other problems to appropriate personnel, and efficiently handles linen and supplies.
- Participates in end of shift reports and CIS documentation, and engages in unit quality assurance programs to enhance the quality and efficiency of unit services.
- Utilizes all equipment, supplies, facilities, and resources prudently and efficiently to ensure efficient departmental operations and the provision of high-quality health care services.
- Promotes the quality and efficiency of his/her own performance through participation in staff educational programs, approved continuing education courses, and specialized skill training programs.
- Affords assistance to physicians with examinations, treatments, and special tests and procedures as directed by a Registered Nurse.
- Collects patient specimens in a caring manner and transports them to the lab when necessary.
- Affords support to patient rehabilitation under the supervision of a Registered Nurse and in accordance with the patient's care plan, running inter-departmental errands for nursing personnel in an expedient and professional manner.
Qualifications
- High School Diploma or GED
- Communication and Customer Service Skills
- Certified Nursing Assistant Required
