About the Role
The Certified Nurses Aide performs direct and indirect patient care services under the direct supervision of licensed staff. Supports the hospital's mission to provide the highest quality care by complying with regulatory guidelines, meeting agency standards, and obtaining appropriate certification.
Responsibilities
- Ensures quality and safe delivery of resident care.
- Participates in interdisciplinary team meetings and reports observations, making appropriate recommendations.
- Actively implements direct resident care in accordance with the care plan.
- Completes daily resident assignments efficiently and is accountable for resident safety throughout the shift.
- Provides supervision of assigned residents and is accountable for their location throughout the shift.
- Ensures resident’s overall appearance reflects good personal hygiene and appropriate dress.
- Promotes age-appropriate independence in activities of daily living (ADLs).
- Ensures the resident’s living environment is neat, clean, and well-organized.
- Ensures optimal nutrition and hydration of the resident by assisting in feeding as per care plan.
- Accurately documents temperature, pulse, respiration (TPR), intake & output (I & O), heights/weights, and all important data as directed by unit routine.
- Promptly reports changes in resident status to staff nurse/nurse manager.
- Communicates resident’s status to staff nurse/nurse manager when reporting off unit for breaks and end of shift.
- Engages residents in age-appropriate socialization/stimulation and collaborates with therapeutic activity staff.
- Escorts residents to ACF/clinic appointments as assigned and ensures clinic consult forms are filled out and returned.
- Accurately identifies resident, environmental, and personal belongings.
- Reports all broken and malfunctioning equipment immediately to staff nurse/nurse manager.
- Maintains a clean, well-organized work environment.
- Initiates the admissions process by greeting the resident in the lobby, escorting to unit, orienting to room, and assisting in vital signs, height, and weight.
Non-Essential Duties
- Collaborates with environmental services to ensure adequate clean clothes are available.
- Accompanies patients on outside trips and activities as needed with therapeutic activities staff/school.
- Actively seeks opportunities to enhance present knowledge.
- Participates in unit-based quality improvement activities.
- Assists nurse or doctor in procedures as needed.
Requirements
- High School Graduate or equivalent.
- Successful completion of 100 hours Nurses Aide Training Program.
- Certified Nurses Aide by State of NY.
- Basic Life Support (BLS) certification is required.
- One year of experience in Medical Surgical/Pediatrics preferred.
This position is subject to the schedule and applicable provisions of the Collective Bargaining Agreement.
