About the role

Certified Nurse Assistant (CNA) positions available at the Michael J. Fitzmaurice State Veterans Home, a long-term care facility offering 70 private nursing care units and 23 independent living units. This role involves assisting with day-to-day resident care and engaging residents in household activities and events, while supporting licensed health care personnel in providing routine medical care in a household-type environment.

Pay

$19.33 to $21.00 per hour, depending on qualifications, plus:

  • $5.00 per hour shift pay for night shifts
  • $1.50 per hour weekend pay

Schedule

  • Full-time position
  • Several openings available for night shifts
  • Shift differential provided for weekend shifts

Responsibilities

  • Perform basic resident care and assist with day-to-day activities
  • Engage residents in household activities and events
  • Assist licensed health care personnel in providing routine medical care
  • Document resident care and report abnormal physical symptoms
  • Assist residents with personal care and hygiene needs
  • Follow established policies, procedures, and safety practices

Requirements

  • Must possess or obtain a South Dakota Certified Nurse Aide (CNA) certification within four months of hire
  • Knowledge of English grammar, spelling, and punctuation
  • Basic arithmetic skills (addition, subtraction, multiplication, division)
  • Understanding of human hygiene requirements and resident safety procedures
  • Ability to document resident care and use basic computer software
  • Ability to observe, recognize, and report abnormal physical symptoms
  • Ability to communicate clearly and concisely, exercise tact, and follow instructions
  • Physical ability to lift 50 pounds, squat, kneel, bend, twist, and perform other physical activities

Additional Information

  • Successful candidates will receive all required training by the employer
  • Position is eligible for Veterans’ Preference per ARSD 55:10:02:08
  • Background investigation, abuse and neglect screening, and drug screening required
  • Must verify identity and eligibility to work in the United States (E-Verify used)
  • National Career Readiness Certificate (NCRC) preferred but not required
