Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA)- Med/Surg 5 - Full-time Days

Schedule

Full-time, 7:00am to 7:30pm, with weekend and holiday rotation.

Responsibilities

• Provides individualized, age-specific patient/family care, performing and/or assisting with area tests and patient care procedures as delegated by the RN and under the supervision of the Charge Nurse. Tasks include:
  • Performing phlebotomy blood draws
  • Fitting and placing orthopedic devices
• Adheres to hospital policies and procedures, providing individual patient care according to the plan of care, delegated tasks, and physician orders.
• Demonstrates knowledge of appropriate care for infant, toddler, preschool, school-age, and adolescent patients.
• Utilizes patient/family input in delivering individualized patient care.
• Completes delegated tasks in an appropriate time frame, such as vital signs, intake/output, height/weight/head circumference measurements, ADLs, preparing for patient arrival/discharge, transports, tests, and assisting RN/MD with procedures.
• Participates with the multidisciplinary team in providing feedback/input into patient/family care needs.
• Sets and revises priorities based on patient care urgency, patient/family/staff requests, and other department demands/schedules.
• Ensures documentation reflects patient care provided, is completed within established time frames, and is accurately recorded in appropriate EPIC flowsheets.
• Maintains environment of care for patient/family and unit:
  • Ensures patient room environment provides comfort, cleanliness, and safety at the beginning, end, and throughout the shift.
  • Prepares room for next admission and maintains supplies/linens, including bedside/unit supply carts.
  • Performs cleaning tasks in patient rooms (countertops, beds, phones, etc.) as needed.
  • Ensures patients are provided with age-appropriate toys, games, infant equipment, and assists with routine cleaning of these items.
  • Ensures extra patient supplies are removed/credited and hospital equipment is returned upon transfer or discharge.
• Oversees equipment and supplies availability in patient rooms and on the unit by ensuring proper storage, cleaning equipment, and following up on maintenance needs.
• Maintains unit environment, such as keeping hallways clear of equipment/obstructions and patient medical records organized.
• Performs clerical and receptionist duties as needed, including:
  • Answering, screening, and directing phone calls with professional etiquette.
  • Greeting, assisting, and guiding patients and visitors in a pleasant and professional manner.
  • Ordering area supplies to ensure adequate inventory.
• Regular attendance at work is an essential function of the job.
• Performs physical requirements as described in the Physical Requirements section.
• Acts as a preceptor for new certified nursing assistant staff by sharing/teaching knowledge and providing support.
• Willingly seeks opportunities to help teammates during shifts as needed.
• Accepts and completes other assigned tasks in a professional manner.

Requirements

• High School Diploma or GED equivalent.
• Current and valid Nurse Aide registry in the State of NE or IA (or LPN/RN license, which satisfies this requirement).
• BLS - Basic Life Support through American Heart Association.

Qualifications

• Experience as a nursing assistant with pediatric patients preferred.
• Knowledge and experience in basic computer skills preferred.
• Ability to perform a variety of duties, often changing tasks without loss of efficiency or composure, and work under stressful conditions.
• Effective verbal, written communication, and interpersonal skills.
