Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) (Developmental Disabilities)

About the role

Provides direct service and daily routine and episodic nursing aide care in a clinically intensive program designed to meet the needs of individuals with developmental disabilities and complex health needs. Administers medication under the Medication Administration Program (MAP) guidelines. Uses rehabilitation values, principles, and techniques, including skills training, to help individuals overcome barriers to live more independently. Assists individuals to become integrated into the community and helps the program meet high quality standards.

Responsibilities

• Provides assistance with activities of daily living according to each individual’s treatment plan and ISP, including but not limited to: community membership, community relationships, vital signs, laundry, toileting, showering, dressing, shaving, wound care, foot care, skin checks, and passive range of motion exercises as needed or ordered by primary care provider.
• Monitors and observes individuals for any changes in physical, mental, or emotional status.
• Administers medication and treatments according to Medication Administration Program (MAP) and Vinfen policies and procedures.
• Provides for the nutritional needs of individuals served.
• Transports, assists, and accompanies individuals to medical, dental, and other appointments as directed.
• Creates a safe, clean, welcoming, and respectful environment, including individuals’ rooms and common areas, ensuring compliance with all safety and regulatory standards.
• Documents nursing care and services provided, including medication administration and daily shift notes, ensuring accuracy and compliance with Vinfen’s policies and procedures.
• Ensures individuals’ medical records and confidential files are current and accurate.
• Follows Vinfen policies and procedures for incident reporting and medication errors.
• Communicates effectively with manager/administrator, colleagues, and Vinfen staff, reporting any changes in client status as directed.
• Communicates with clients’ families and/or guardians as warranted.
• Works effectively and safely with assistive and medical equipment, including wheelchairs, Hoyer lifts, glucometers, nebulizers, and oxygen.
• Maintains individuals’ medical equipment and supplies.
• Provides opportunities for individuals to engage and participate in home/program and community events.
• Ensures individuals’ preferences and choices are encouraged and respected.
• Advocates effectively for individuals served.
• Develops and maintains effective relationships with individuals served, families, guardians, and other significant relationships.
• Acts as liaison and collaborates with other Vinfen departments, outside agencies, and community providers.
• Attends and actively participates in staff meetings, trainings, and community meetings.
• Acts as a positive role model for individuals served and assists with orientation of new staff.
• Adheres to all Vinfen policies and procedures.
• Performs other related duties as assigned.

Requirements

• Prior experience as a C.N.A., preferably with people with developmental disabilities. In some cases, experience may be substituted for academic training.
• High school diploma or equivalent required.
• Valid driver’s license and ability to drive using either a Vinfen van or personal vehicle. If using a personal vehicle, must possess and maintain adequate insurance and a safe driving record. Must be at least 21 years of age and have maintained a valid US driver’s license for at least six months.
• Ability to stand, walk, bend, kneel, stoop, crouch, crawl, and climb as this is a physically active position.
• Must be able to lift at least 25 pounds using proper lifting techniques or the use of a two-person lift.
• Ability to operate a computer and other office equipment such as a calculator, copier, and printer.
• Ability to sit, reach, climb stairs, and maneuver through narrow spaces or hallways.
• Ability to assist clients with tasks of daily living.
• Ability to remain in a stationary position 50% of the time as needed.
• Ability to speak, hear, and communicate effectively with clients, staff, and external representatives.
• Specific vision abilities required include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus.
• For positions in day programs or group residences, ability to assist in routine living activities including cleaning, meal preparation, vacuuming, shoveling, and grocery shopping.

Qualifications

• C.N.A. license in the state of service required.
• CPR certification required within two weeks of hire.
• First Aid certification required within two weeks of hire.
• MAP certification required within 150 days of hire.
• Safety Care certification required within 90 days of hire.

Pay

USD $23.32 per hour.
