Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) Duties and Responsibilities
- Provides physical support for patients/residents’ daily activities and personal hygiene, including bathing, dressing, grooming, transferring to/from bed, toileting, walking, standing, or exercising.
- Turns and repositions bedridden patients.
- Ensures proper resident/patient diet based on their dietary restrictions.
- Makes measurements and records food and liquid intake.
- Examines patients for open wounds, bruises, or blood in urine.
- Notes and communicates patient/resident behavior and changes in mood.
- Gathers medical supplies.
- Cleans rooms and bed linens.
- Checks and records vital signs, including blood pressure, pulse, temperature, and respiration rate under the supervision of a licensed nurse.
- Answers to patient calls and needs.
- Aides patients being transported to and from appointments.
- All other duties, as assigned.
Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) Skills and Abilities
- Good collaboration and teamwork skills with the nursing staff.
- Familiarity with symptoms and signs of improvement for a number of medical conditions.
- Ability to read, write, speak, and understand English.
- Meets all health requirements, as required by law.
- Ability to relate positively, effectively, and appropriately with residents, families, community members, volunteers, and other facility staff.
- Demonstrates basic computer knowledge and ability with an aptitude to learn company applications.
Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) Education and Experience
- High School Diploma or GED.
- State Certified Nursing Assistant License/Certification.
- Current CPR certificate or become certified within 90 days of employment, preferred.
- Some facilities may require this.
Physical Requirements
- Walking, reaching, bending, lifting, extended sitting, grasping, fine hand coordination, pushing and pulling, ability to distinguish smells and temperatures, all with or without the aid of mechanical devices is required.
- Limited potential for exposure to environmental hazards.
- Understanding and adherence to company safety standards and protocols required.
- Must be able to push, pull, move and/or lift a minimum of 25 pounds to a minimum height of 5 feet and be able to push, pull, move and/or carry such weight a minimum distance of 50 feet.
- May be necessary to assist in the evacuation of residents during emergency situations.
