About the role

The Certified Nursing Assistant cares for residents under the direction and supervision of a registered nurse or a licensed practical/vocational nurse. This role assists residents with activities of daily living (ADLs), ensures a safe and comfortable environment, and supports licensed nursing staff in delivering individualized care in accordance with regulatory requirements and facility policies.

Responsibilities

  • Provide direct resident care, including assistance with bathing, grooming, dressing, toileting, incontinent care as applicable, oral hygiene and feeding
  • Measure and record vital signs, weight, percentage of meal consumed intake/output as directed
  • Assist residents with mobility, transfers, and position using proper body mechanics and lift equipment as applicable
  • Respond promptly to call lights, resident needs, and changes in condition; report observations to licensed nursing staff
  • Support residents' independence and dignity, while ensuring safety and comfort
  • Maintain accurate and timely documentation and in accordance with facility procedures
  • Follow infection control, safety, and universal precaution guidelines at all times
  • Provide emotional support and companionship to residents, fostering a positive living environment
  • Maintains a clean, safe and comfortable environment
  • Provides postmortem care
  • Make routine rounds on each assigned resident every two hours
  • Provides skin care and observes residents' skin when giving care and reports changes to licensed nurse

  • Contributes to the residents' assessment (MDS/CAA's) and the plan of care

  • Instructs the resident on the care and use of prosthetic and orthotic devices
  • Incorporates training and skill practice activities, which include repetition, physical or verbal cueing, and task segmentation
  • Cares for residents with Dementia
  • Knows how to respond to residents' behaviors
  • Allows residents to make personal choices
  • Provides and reinforces other behavior consistent with residents' dignity
  • Uses the resident's families as a source of emotional support for the resident
  • Demonstrates a basic understanding of behavior and functional symptoms associated with dementia by providing interventions and treatments to help reduce these symptoms
  • Uses modification in the presentation of activities of daily living to maintain and maximize resident functions
  • Uses effective intervention techniques to address behavioral concerns
  • Assists with transporting residents to activities
  • Demonstrates effective communication techniques for residents with dementia
  • Provides non-resident care including but not limited to: Wash wheelchairs, cleaning soiled utility areas, cleaning shower and whirlpool rooms, cleaning kitchen areas on the nursing unit
  • Performs other duties assigned

Qualifications

Education and/or Experience: High School Graduate/GED

Certificates, Licenses, Registrations: Must be a Certified Nursing Assistant in good standing with the certification board or is a graduate of a state approved nursing assistant training program and passed a state approved competency examination (written and skills) within 120 days of employment; name entered into state nurse aide registry.

Minimum Qualifications: Computer skills are required. Meets all state and federal criminal background check requirements.
