Responsibilities
- Affords assistance in preparing unit and patient room and bed to ensure adequate accommodation during hospital stay.
- Aids and accompanies patients during admission, transfer, and discharge procedures with compassion and understanding.
- Takes and records patient temperature, pulse, respiration, weight, height, blood pressure, and intake-output measurements in a caring and efficient manner, documenting information in CIS.
- Assists patients with daily living activities such as bed baths, oral hygiene, shaving, dressing, back rubs, and linen freshening.
- Prepares patients for meals, serves food, and feeds patients when needed with compassion and respect.
- Transports patients to and from designated areas of the hospital with identification bracelets, demonstrating compassion and respect.
- Retrieves medications from the pneumatic tube system or pharmacy and delivers them to the nurse or places them in a secure location as directed by the nurse manager.
- Maintains a safe, comfortable, and therapeutic health care environment by cleaning rooms and equipment, preparing for sterilization and disinfection, and promptly reporting damaged equipment and other issues to appropriate personnel.
- Efficiently handles linen and supplies, ensuring efficient departmental operations and high-quality health care services.
- Promotes the quality and efficiency of his/her own performance through participation in staff educational programs, approved continuing education courses, and specialized skill training programs.
- Aids physicians with examinations, treatments, and special tests as directed by a Registered Nurse.
- Collects patient specimens in a caring manner and transports them to the lab when necessary.
- Assists with patient rehabilitation under the supervision of a Registered Nurse in an efficient and professional manner.
- Runs inter-departmental errands for nursing personnel in an expedient and professional manner.
Qualifications
- High School Diploma or GED
- Certified Nursing Assistant certification required
