Certified Nursing Assistant - Advanced (DOH/FBMC #13864)

About the role

This position performs duties as Preceptor and/or Senior Neighborhood Nurse Aide. The incumbent will provide ongoing training, coaching, mentoring and leadership to Certified Nursing Assistants. This position provides sub-professional direct personal nursing care and related support to long-term care facility residents, including adolescents, adults, and geriatric residents.

Responsibilities

• Answer patient call signals, signal lights, bells, or intercom systems to determine patients' needs.
• Turn or reposition bedridden patients.
• Provide physical support to assist patients with daily living activities such as getting out of bed, bathing, dressing, using the toilet, standing, walking, or exercising.
• Review patients' dietary restrictions, food allergies, and preferences to ensure appropriate diet.
• Measure and record food and liquid intake or urinary and fecal output, reporting changes to medical or nursing staff.
• Provide ongoing training, coaching, mentoring, and leadership to Certified Nursing Assistants.

Minimum Qualifications

• Certification as a Certified Medication Aide (CMA), Home Health Aide (HHA), or Certified Nursing Aide (CNA).
• One (1) year of experience in a traditional long-term care facility and/or as it pertains to the essential duties and responsibilities of the classification.
• Any combination of education from an accredited college or university in a related field above certification requirements and/or direct experience in this occupation totaling one (1) year may substitute for the required experience.

Employment Requirements

• This position is designated as safety sensitive. Employment is subject to pre-employment and random testing in accordance with all terms and conditions of federal and state law, rules and regulations in relation to alcohol and/or drug testing.
• Will be screened for tuberculosis (TB) upon hire.
• Employment is subject to nationwide criminal background check pursuant to New Mexico Caregivers Criminal Screening Act (Sections 29-17-2 through 29-17-5 NMSA 1978 and 7.1.9.1 through 7.1.9.11 NMAC) and is conditional pending results.

Working Conditions

• Works throughout the nursing service area (i.e., nurses stations, resident rooms, etc.).
• Moves intermittently during working hours.
• Subject to frequent interruptions.
• Involved with residents, personnel, visitors, government agencies/personnel, etc.
• Subject to hostile and emotionally upset residents, family members, personnel, and visitors.
• Communicates with the medical staff, nursing personnel, and other department directors.
• Works beyond normal working hours and on weekends and holidays when necessary.
• Subject to call back during emergency conditions (e.g., severe weather, evacuation, post-disaster, etc.).
• Subject to exposure to infectious waste, diseases, and conditions.
• Must be able to push, pull, move, and/or lift a minimum of 25 pounds to a minimum height of 5 feet and be able to push, pull, move, and/or carry such weight a minimum distance of 50 feet.
