About the role

Provide summary care for patients in a nursing home setting under the delegation and direction of licensed nursing staff.

Responsibilities

• Answer signal lights, bells, or intercom system and assist patients with their needs.
• Assist patients to bathroom, with bedpan and urinal.
• Check and provide needed care to patients who soil and/or wet themselves.
• Bathe, dress, and undress patients.
• Assist patients with all hygiene (mouth care, fingernails, grooming of hair, etc.).
• Give non-systemic enemas as assigned.
• Collect specimens for laboratory tests as assigned.
• Perform nursing intervention programs as assigned (range of motion, bowel and bladder training, etc.).
• Observe patients for any changes in physical or mental condition and report observations to the charge nurse.
• Serve and collect food trays and feed patients requiring help.
• Transport patients or assist patients to walk.
• Provide fresh water in pitchers in patient rooms and collect pitchers and cups for sterilization.
• Turn and reposition patients, alone or with assistance, to prevent skin breakdown.
• Change bed linens, make beds, direct visitors, and answer telephone.
• Check and record patient health care activity as stated on assignments.
• Take and record temperature, blood pressure, pulse and respiration rates, and food and fluid intake and output, as directed.
• Obtain, clean, disinfect, and store supplies (bedpans, urinals, etc.) in patient rooms.
• Maintain patient areas (closets, dressers, drawers, etc.) in an orderly manner.

Pay
