About the Role

Join the Sisters of Mercy Convent, a private residence for retired Sisters in Portland, ME. This is not a nursing home—it’s a calm, respectful, and supportive environment focused on quality, person-centered care with a truly ideal patient-to-caregiver ratio. You’ll be part of a small team caring for a close-knit community of retired Sisters in a setting that values dignity, compassion, and relationship-based care.

Responsibilities

• Conduct regular visits with Sisters
• Assist with Activities of Daily Living as appropriate
• Support and encourage Sisters with eating and drinking
• Turn, position, and transfer Sisters to bed, chair, wheelchair, etc.
• Monitor Sisters’ physical and mental condition
• Provide companionship and foster relationships with facility staff
• Maintain a healthy, safe environment in Sisters’ apartments/rooms
• Report all observations of concern to the Healthcare team
• Keep the Healthcare team informed of schedule and visits
• Accompany Sisters to outside appointments
• Encourage participation in activities
• Assist with shopping for Sisters as requested/needed
• Perform other duties as assigned by the Manager
• Attend and participate in staff meetings, in-services, and other required meetings
• May be required to work extended hours, including evenings and weekends
• May be required to attend meetings or accompany Sisters to medical appointments

Requirements

• Certified Nursing Assistant (active license) in the state of Maine, preferred
• Other healthcare personnel may be considered with good experience
• At least 2 years’ experience working with older adults
• Valid driver’s license with a clean driving record

Pay

$18.00 – $23.00 per hour
