Summary
The Certified Nurse Midwife (CNM) works under the general supervision of the physician and collaborates with the Senior Certified Nurse Midwife. Responsibilities include providing direct clinical care in out-patient and in-patient settings, managing high-risk pregnancies, and offering comprehensive gynecological and maternity care.Responsibilities
- Diagnoses, monitors, and examines women during pregnancy.
- Develops, assesses, and evaluates individual care programs.
- Provides full antenatal care, including screening tests.
- Identifies high-risk pregnancies and consults with doctors and specialists.
- Arranges and provides parenting and health education for the woman, her partner, and family members.
- Supports mothers through events like miscarriage, termination, stillbirth, neonatal abnormality, and neonatal death, coordinating care with obstetricians.
- Assists mothers in labor and delivery, monitors fetal condition, and uses knowledge of drugs and pain management.
- Offers advice and guidance on safe and timely discharge.
- Liaises with outside agencies and other health professionals to ensure continuity of care.
- Engages in professional development and supervises junior colleagues.
Minimum Qualifications
- Licensure as Registered Nurse in Rhode Island or RN license under the Nurse Licensure Compact.
- Master's of Science in Nursing (MSN).
- American Midwifery Certification Board (AMCB) certification.
- Current State of Rhode Island Midwifery Licensure and controlled substance registration.
- Demonstrated knowledge and skills necessary to provide care across the lifespan, considering aging processes, human development stages, and cultural diversity.
- 2 years' clinical Obstetrics and Gynecology experience as a Certified Nurse Midwife preferred.
- Patient care services, procedures, and privileges approved by the sponsoring physician.
