Job Summary
Under Physician supervision, the Certified Nurse Midwife will provide pre-pregnancy and pregnancy care, labor and delivery, postpartum and gynecological services for the lifespan of women.
Essential Functions
- Performs an exam, obtains complete medical history and records findings.
- Orders and interprets diagnostic procedures.
- Manages women’s healthcare including primary diagnoses, managing prenatal, intrapartum, and postpartum care.
- Prescribes medications and injections in compliance with their scope of practice, state law, and clinic guidelines.
- Instructs patient/family regarding medications and treatments.
- Educates patients regarding health and illness prevention.
- Collaborates with physicians in managing medical needs of patients.
- Provides monitoring and continuity of care between physician visits.
- Maintains and reviews patient records and other pertinent information.
- Maintains patient confidentiality.
Required Additional Requirements
- Education - Completion of a nursing education program that is approved by a board of nursing.
- Certifications - Basic Life Support (BLS) Certification - American Heart Association (AHA) - Within 60 days of hire or transfer; Registered Nurse (RN) - South Dakota Board of Nursing; Certified Nurse Midwife (CNM) - South Dakota Board of Nursing.
- Experience - 3+ years of Registered Nurse Experience.
- Regarding BLS certification: The department you are applying to may require BLS certification sooner than 60 days post transfer/hire. The hiring manager will discuss this with you if it is applicable.
Preferred Education
- Bachelors degree in Nursing.
Physical Requirements
- Light work - Exerting up to 20 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 10 pounds of force frequently, and/or a negligible amount of force constantly to move objects.
