About the role
The Indian Health Service employs Certified Nurse Midwives to provide compassionate, holistic care to American Indian and Alaska Native communities. Our mission is to improve the health outcomes of these populations.
Responsibilities
- Deliver independent, preventative, therapeutic, and comprehensive obstetric and gynecologic care.
- Collaborate with Obstetricians and Gynecologists to ensure optimal patient care.
- Perform accurate history and physical examinations on obstetric, gynecologic, and neonatal patients.
- Manage labor, including initial evaluation, hospital admission, ongoing assessment, and patient/family education and support.
- Provide postpartum care using a family-centered approach, evaluating and managing the normal postpartum period.
Requirements
To be considered, applicants must:
- Have a graduate or higher-level degree from an accredited professional nursing educational program.
- Possess a current, active, full, and unrestricted license or registration as a professional nurse from a State, the District of Columbia, the Commonwealth of Puerto Rico, or a territory of the United States.
- Pass the National Council Licensure Examination.
- For APN positions, hold a graduate or higher-level degree in nursing from an accredited educational program in the area of expertise or specialty indicated by the position.
