About the Unit

200 Medical-Surgical is a 30-bed unit that cares for patients admitted from the Emergency Department, Post-Anesthesia Care Unit, Critical Care Units, and physician offices. The team serves a broad age range, from young adults to patients over 100, offering diverse and valuable clinical experiences. The unit specializes in medical, surgical, and gynecologic/oncology care, including procedures such as:

• Hysterectomies
• Mastectomies
• Bowel resections
• Various oncology surgeries

Chemotherapy is occasionally administered, and patients may require telemetry monitoring or oxygen support. The unit is known for its supportive, team-focused culture and offers professional development opportunities such as precepting and advancement through the clinical ladder.

Responsibilities

• Provide basic patient care under the direction of nursing staff, including taking vitals, bathing, dressing, moving patients, and changing linens
• Obtain information on patient condition as requested by nursing staff and report any changes
• Perform other duties as assigned

Requirements

For Certified Nurse Assistant/Nurse Assistant Roles:

• 3 months of experience as a nursing assistant in an inpatient or long-term care setting, EMT, or Surgical Technologist in the past 3 years, OR
• Completion of an Unlicensed Assistive Personnel Program within the past 3 years, OR
• Completion of the “fundamentals of nursing” course with clinical in an accredited nursing program or practical nursing education program, OR
• Must have a Missouri CNA License, OR
• Must have a MO CNA Appendix (MO CNA license must be obtained within 120 days of hire)

For Nurse Assistant Trainees:

• Functions within a classroom and clinical learning environment to obtain training as unlicensed assistive personnel
• Provides basic patient care under the direction and supervision of a clinical educator and nursing staff during clinical rotations
• Performs duties such as taking vitals, bathing, dressing, moving patients, and changing linens within scope of practice as directed
• Obtains information on patient condition as requested by nursing staff or clinical educator and reports any changes
• Completes a competency assessment at the end of training to validate learning
