Responsibilities
- Administer medications safely and accurately as ordered by a physician under the supervision of a licensed nurse, in accordance with state and federal regulations and community policy
- Serve as Lead in community representing Leadership Team during shift in coordination with management
- Demonstrate knowledge of the “five rights” of medication administration
- Administer and record all medication given to residents based upon their specific chart
- Take and record vital signs of residents as assigned or as required by certain medications
- Record the administration of medications and/or treatments appropriately, utilizing the computer system to enter and reference resident information
- Observe and report any reactions and/or side effects of medications to a licensed nurse immediately
- Administer PRN medications in accordance with state and federal regulations and facility policy
- Ensure antiseptic techniques, good hand washing practices, and universal precautions are in place and practiced for infection control
- Report and, when appropriate, record any changes observed in condition or behavior of residents and unusual incidents
- Submit incident/accident reports to supervisor or Administrator within twenty-four (24) hours after their occurrence
- Communicate with medical staff, nursing service, and other department supervisors
- Supervise care staff in absence of nurses
- Maintain, clean, and organize the Medication Room
- Maintain a liaison with other department supervisors to adequately plan for resident activities
- Attend all required training, in-service, and staff meetings
- Maintain resident confidentiality, staff confidentiality; treat staff and residents with kindness, dignity, and respect
- Comply with Resident’s Rights rules
- Support residents with patience, dignity, and yes, the occasional dance move
- Communicate clearly and collaborate as a true team player
- Help shape a culture where residents and staff actually thrive
Requirements
- A High School Diploma or General Education Degree; or one to three months related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience
- Certified Medication Aide certification required
